My mother tried for years to apply for Holocaust reparations but was repeatedly turned down despite the suffering she went through in Budapest, losing her parents and raising a baby (me) while my father was in a forced labor camp. I feel grateful to the International Center for Holocaust Reparations and especially to adv. Shaina, who assisted me with filing a claim on my mother’s behalf successfully. My family and I appreciate her help.

Many years ago, my beloved mother, z”l, said that the families of Holocaust survivors should also receive a pension. When there is even one survivor in a family, the entire family is affected. I am very grateful for the help of the Center for Reparations in getting compensation for my mother’s hard life in the Budapest ghetto. Although money cannot make forget the crimes caused by the fascists, it was a nice gesture that the German authorities issued this sum as an apologetic payment for my mother’s descendents.

We are thankful that the Center reached out to us and recommended filing a claim. While it was a lengthy process, the Center was diligent in its process, and we finally prevailed and now may appeal again since the amount awarded may be too little. While we wish our father were alive to receive the money, we still believe that making Germany “pay” is more important.
